Crazy Rich Asians Teaser Sets Gold Standard for Summer Comedies

We have our first look at Crazy Rich Asians. The movie adaptation of Kevin Kwan's best-selling book comes from Warner Bros. and arrives in theaters this summer. Jon M. Chu (Now You See Me 2) directed the contemporary romantic comedy. Now, we have our first brief teaser, showcasing the first footage, with the full trailer set to arrive online this Monday. While the teaser may be brief, there is an awful lot to look at here, with the footage showcasing the lives of some insanely wealthy people.

The teaser doesn't reveal too much, but gives a sense of the scale this movie is taking on. Crazy Rich Asians does appear to live up to its name, as it indeed features a bunch of crazy rich Asian people. It's very rare, if not unheard of, for an American movie to feature such a predominantly Asian cast. Not only that, but the movie was filmed entirely on location in Singapore and Malaysia, so it should have a very authentic feel to it. If Black Panther has taught us anything, it's that diversity can only help a good movie out. People want to see themselves represented on screen and moviegoers are also looking for something that feels new.


Crazy Rich Asians follows native New Yorker Rachel Chu as she accompanies her longtime boyfriend, Nick Young, to his best friend's wedding in Singapore. Excited about visiting Asia for the first time but nervous about meeting Nick's family, Rachel is unprepared to learn that Nick has neglected to mention a few key details about his life. It turns out that he is not only the scion of one of the country's wealthiest families but also one of its most sought-after bachelors.

Being on Nick's arm puts a target on Rachel's back, with jealous socialites and, worse, Nick's own disapproving mother taking aim. And it soon becomes clear that while money can't buy love, it can definitely complicate things.
 
The cast for Crazy Rich Asians is led by Constance Wu (Fresh Off the Boat). The movie also stars Gemma Chan (Humans), Lisa Lu (2012), Awkwafina (Ocean's 8), Ken Jeong (The Hangover) and Michelle Yeoh (Star Trek: Discovery. Rounding out the movie's large ensemble is Henry Golding, making his feature debut, Sonoya Mizuno (La La Land), Chris Pang (Marco Polo), Jimmy O. Yang (Silicon Valley), Ronny Chieng (The Daily Show), Remi Hii (Marco Polo) and Nico Santos (Superstore). 


Nina Jacobson (The Hunger Games) and Brad Simpson (World War Z) and John Penotti (Hell or High Water) produced Crazy Rich Asians, with Tim Coddington, Kevin Kwan, Robert Friedland, and Sidney Kimmel serving as executive producers. The screenplay comes from Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim. Warner Bros. has set the movie for release on August 17, which could wind up being a sneaky, late summer hit this year. Crazy Rich Asians Trailer Proves Only Family Is Crazier Than Love

The first trailer for Crazy Rich Asians has arrived. This summer has a lot in store for moviegoers. There are the usual sequels, massive blockbusters and superhero movies galore, but we're also getting something pretty unique in Crazy Rich Asians. This is a big studio movie that features an entirely Asian cast. You'd be hard-pressed to find anything else like it, in terms of American cinema. Now, Warner Bros. has released the first full-length trailer, giving us a proper look at the upcoming romantic comedy.

This movie is based on Kevin Kwan's best-selling book of the same name. Based on the trailer, it looks like an extravagant, fun movie that will have a pretty equal balance of humor and emotion. Jon M. Chu (Now You See Me 2) directed the movie. So not only is the cast completely Asian, but there is also an Asian filmmaker behind the camera. Black Panther struck gold earlier this year in part because it featured a diverse cast that represented people who aren't represented as well in blockbuster movies, in a way they've never really been featured before. This movie can do the same, assuming it actually turns out to be good.

Ant-Man and the Wasp Trailer #2 Unleashes a Crazy New Villain

Marvel Studios announced yesterday that we were all going to soon get a better look at Ant-Man and the Wasp, and they weren't kidding around. The new trailer has dropped and it's even better than the first trailer that was released earlier this year. Ant-Man 2 will be the third and final Marvel movie to be released in 2018, with Captain Marvel launching into theaters early next year. Both movies take place before the events of Infinity War, which has now been officially confirmed.

The tone of the Ant-Man 2 trailer is lighthearted and far less serious than the events of Infinity War, which just came out this past weekend. It appears that the sequel will be somewhat of a palette cleanser for the Marvel Cinematic Universe after all of the recent doom and gloom, and the brand-new trailer reflects that. We are also introduced to the movie's crazy new villain Ghost, played by Hannah John-Kamen. As seen here, she has stolen some of Hank Pym's tech, and is able to seemingly walk through walls just like an apparition, with Michael Peña's Luis gleefully explaining the threat to Scott and Hank.

To prepare fans for the new Ant-Man 2 trailer, Marvel released a new poster that features Evangeline Lilly's Wasp character front and center along with our first look at Michelle Pfeiffer's Janet van Dyne, who has been missing in the Quantum Realm. Evangeline Lilly recently spoke about the plot of Ant-Man and the Wasp, noting that the main storyline is the search for Janet van Dyne, aka the first Wasp, mother of Hope, and wife of Hank Pym. After Scott Lang's adventure in the Quantum Realm and making it back safely, it has sparked the curiosity to go save Janet. While the sequel is not the romantic comedy of the MCU, it certainly looks like we will be getting a little bit of a love story as Scott and Hope learn to work together.

In addition to the new poster, Marvel Studios also promoted the new trailer with a hilarious video of the cast of Infinity War trying to answer where Scott Lang was during the events of Avengers 3. Nobody seems to know where or what Lang was doing while they were all battling Thanos. Anthony Mackie asks where the "tic tac" is while someone mentions that he's probably with Hawkeye. As the new footage proves, Paul Rudd's Scott Lang is back at home after being placed on house arrest after the events of Captain America: Civil War. Lang wasn't lucky enough to get broken out of the Raft by Cap.

This will more than likely be the final trailer for Ant-Man 2 and we'll probably get a barrage of TV spots in the coming months as the release date approaches. It will be nice to end the MCU's year with a little lighthearted fun to prepare us for Avengers 4, which hits theaters in a year from now. Ant-Man and the Wasp will reportedly play a big role in that movie as well after sitting out for Infinity War. Ant-Man 2 will swing into theaters on July 6th, until then, you can check out the brand-new trailer for below, thanks to Marvel Studios.
